James Otis West, son of the late Claudie West Sr. and Clara Mae Battle, was born on January 31, 1957 in Franklin County N.C. He joined the United States Army Reserves, where he received his basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He later moved to Rocky Mount, N.C. He was employed with the city of Rocky Mount in the electric Department as a lineman for 17 years. He joined Oak Level Missionary Baptist church at a early age for a short time. Then he attended other churches. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. On November 30 2019, James transitioned into eternal rest at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C..
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 42 years, Bertha L. West: brother, Jimmy Earl Harris of Tillery, N.C.: his sister, Sandra Strickland of Rky Mt. N.C.: Three sons, Fuquan J. West (Miranda), Travis L. Lucas (Lakeisha) of Creedmore, N.C. and Derrick A. Arrington (LaGreta) of Rocky Mount N.C.: daughter, Stephanie Reaves (Ernest) of Rocky Mount N.C. nine grandchildren, three great grands, three aunts, one uncle, two sister-in-laws, a special nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.
