Sonja Averetta Evans

Sonja A. Evans was born on May 5, 1959 to the late James H. Evans and Arlene Evans in Nashville, NC. At the age of 61, she departed this life at her home on  April 3, 2021. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family, loved ones, and caregivers during the last weeks of life.

During her adolescence, Sonja moved with her parents and siblings to Rocky Mount,  NC where she lived for the remainder of her life. She attended and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School. She continued her education at Chowan College (now known as Chowan University) in Murfreesboro, NC. She went on to work at Allied Bendix and eventually Honeywell for over a decade, manufacturing airplane parts.

Leaving to cherish Sonja's memories are her two daughters: Shoneca Kent (Nelson Jr.) and Jasmine Bobbitt (Damian), both of Rocky Mount: one grandson, Nelson III; five sisters; Adria Webb (the late Milton Webb), Gina Lewis, Dazella Battle (Billy), Anita Rogers, and Mary Williams, all of Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers; James D.Evans (Phyllis) of Nashville, NC and Keith Evans of Reidsville, NC; and a host of caring nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention. She showed sisterly love to Milagro Solis and Kimberly Seabron. She shared a special relationship with several of her nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. Evans and Arlene Evans, and her brother, Joe"Pete" Evans.
